In this video, I am going to cover where to go and how to begin registering into our system, so you can start to apply for our grant funding.

To begin, you'll want to navigate to our portal at albertainnovates.smartsimple.ca

This is the page you'll use to login once you have completed registration, so it's a good idea to bookmark this page. Please note that our Application portal does not support Internet Explorer; please use a more modern browser. If you experience issues using our portal, try deleting your browser's cache or switching to another browser. If you're still experiencing issues, you can contact support by using the email on screen now. [GMSsupport@albertainnovates.ca]

Before we can login, we need to register. To register, click the blue "Register" button in the bottom left-hand corner of the screen.

The first step in the registration process is to determine which registration form you need to fill out. We have provided an explanation for each form below, but we'll go over each quickly in this video:

-If you are a researcher or employee of an academic institution such as the U of A, the U of C, or the U of L, click the button for Academic Institution - Alberta. If you are a researcher or an employee of an academic institution outside of Alberta, click the button for Academic Institution - Other.

-If you are an employee of a For-Profit company that has less than 500 employees and less that $50 million dollars in annual revenue, then you are considered a Small or Medium Enterprise (an SME), so click the button for For-Profit Organization - SME. If you are an employee of a For-Profit company with more than 500 employees or more than $50 million dollars in annual revenue, click the button for For-Profit Organization - Other. If you do not know whether you fit under SME or Other, please try to find out this information prior to registration, as access to funding programs may be restricted to one or the other deepening on the program.

-Please note: at this time Alberta Innovates does not have any programs aimed at Sole Proprietors or unincorporated entrepreneurs, so you must incorporate in order to be eligible for our programs. If we were to open such programs for Sole Proprietors or unincorporated entrepreneurs in the future, there would be registration buttons added on this page.

-If you are a representative of the Alberta Government, an Alberta Government Agency, or an Alberta Crown Corporation, click the button for Government Entity - Alberta and Affiliates. If you are a representative of a Government, Agency, or Crown Corporation outside of Alberta, click the button for Government Entity - Other.

-Finally, if you are an employee of a Non-Profit or Not-for-Profit Organization, click the button for Non-Profit/Not-for-Profit Organization.

One final note for Reviewers: if you have been in contact with Alberta Innovates in regards to providing reviewer services, you DO NOT need to register an account on this page. Alberta Innovates will provide a separate registration link for you, so please be in contact with us if you do not have that link. If you already have an Application account registered on this page, you can also have a separate reviewer account, but note that different email addresses will be needed for both accounts.
