In this video, I'm going to cover how to register as an External Reviewer.

You cannot sign up to be an External Reviewer through our Application portal by the normal process; you can only register as an External Reviewer with Alberta Innovates if you have been given a special link for the External Reviewers.

Make sure that you read through all of the information on this registration page as it covers information such as your payment options and your agreement to our confidentiality statement.

On our registration forms, please fill out all of the information marked with stars, as these fields are mandatory.

The first field is how you will be compensated for reviews. The options are to be paid as an individual, to pay your company, or to decline payment. Please note that if you select to have your company paid, you will need to fill out a different registration form that will associate you with your company for payment in our system. Please click the link that pops up if you select this option, otherwise you may continue with this form.

On this registration form, the first field is a lookup field for your company. If I was affiliated with "Dummy Company" for example, I only need to start typing the word "dummy" for it to appear in the list. At this point, I can simply select this option and continue on with my form.

If your company does not show up in this field, you will need to use the expanded registration form that will also register your company. You can find this expanded form by clicking on the link here.

For the Legal Name field, you'll need to input the name of the company exactly as stated on their incorporation and legal documents. For example, though my company is called "Dummy Corporation," it's legally registered with the Province as 123 Alberta Ltd.

The Trade Name field is not mandatory, but you can use it if your company has an officially registered Trade Name. In this example, though my company is known as Dummy Corporation, it's not legally registered as it's Trade Name, so we'll leave this field blank.

Below this are the fields for the company's address, and below this is the field for the company's Jurisdiction of Incorporation. If your company was registered in Alberta, please select "Alberta" from the drop-down list. If your company was registered Federally, please select "Other" from the drop-down list and write in the country in the box that shows up below.

The field below this is the Corporate Access Number or CAN. You receive this number when you incorporate in Alberta or when you receive your extra-provincial registration. Please note that this is NOT the same as your Business Number, which is given to you by the Federal Government. If you believe that your company is eligible for payment without having a Corporate Access Number, such as might be the case for large enterprises and companies outside of Canada, you can just put all zeros in this space.

The next field is the Organization's Primary Business Sector. Please select the sector that is closest to your company's primary occupation.

Finally, while not mandatory, please provide us with your company's website.

This completes the registration section for your company. Please note that I have completed this form as if 123 Alberta Ltd. was NOT already in our system; please do not use this form to register with a company already is registered in our system as this creates unnecessary duplication.

The section below is the registration information for yourself. Note that this section is the same on all of the External Reviewer registration forms that I've show today. Please note: the information below should be your professional information, rather than your personal info.

For the Work Email field, please enter the email associated with your company if you have one. This is the email address you'll use to login to our website and receive email correspondence. For the Work Phone field, please enter your phone number with the area code. If you do not have a work phone, a personal phone is acceptable here.

The final field is the External Reviewer Terms of Engagement. Please review these terms and click the checkbox at the bottom of the screen to agree. You cannot review for Alberta Innovates if you do not agree to these terms. Please note that Alberta Innovates may contact you in the future if these terms are updated.

When you're finished the form, click the blue "Submit" button at the bottom of the screen. If there are any missing fields or errors on your form, the messages will appear at the top of the screen. You may need to scroll up to the top of the screen to see the messages if nothing happens when you try to click the submit button.

Once all of the errors have been resolved, please click the submit button again. You'll know that registration has been completed successfully when you see this confirmation screen. If you were not directed to this screen, then your registration was NOT successful; please check your internet settings and try again. At this point, the system will automatically send you an email to set up your password. Once that has been completed, you will be able to log into our system and begin doing reviews.
